Welcome to our new way to keep you all up to date on our adoption process. Here's a quick recap of our timeline so far.
January 13, 2005
We decided to adopt and requested information from an agency.
January 29, 2005-Finally Started
We sent in our home study application and began filling out the agency application.
February 10, 2005-First Meeting for the Homestudy
We had our first meeting for the home study.
February 22, 2005
I sent in our application to the agency along with pictures of our home and family.
February 25, 2005 - Application Received
The agency received our application.
March 1, 2005 - 2nd Meeting for Homestudy
Well, 2 down and 1 to go.
March 14, 2005-Home Visit
Finally, the home visit is over and everything went well.
March 22, 2004-600A form
We sent in our 600A form to the USCIS aka INS. Normally this is sent in at the same time you begin your homestudy, but our agency suggested we wait. The reason is that when USCIS receives the form they will give us an appointment to get fingerprinted and the finger prints are good for 15 months. The agency is concerned that it will take longer than that to complete our adoption and we would have to redo our fingerprints, forms, pay more $, etc.
April 26, 2005 -Hooray! The appointment is made!
Our home study is finally complete and we were able to make our appointment with our agency for June 8, 2005
April 30, 2005 - We got our filing date.
We received an envelope from USCIS (Formerly INS) stating that our I600A was received and it gave us a filing date. This allows our social worker to send our home study to them so that we can get appointments to be fingerprinted.
June 8, 2005 - We Had Our Interview
Yeah, we had our interview. It went great.
June 15, 2005 - One More Little Step
There has been a hold up with the final draft of our home study. After many incomplete answers from the social worker's secretary, we finally figured out that we were supposed to have been fingerprinted for the "state police clearance." She never told us that or gave us any information on it. Anyway, we finally figured it out and I was fingerprinted on June 7 and Justin was fingerprinted on June 14.
June 25, 2005 Last Steps
Our agency has finally received all of our paperwork. We also got our official fingerprint appointment and went to be fingerprinted for the USCIS (formerly INS)..
September 3, 2005 USCIS Approval
We received our official approval from the USCIS (formerly INS) to adopt an orphan and bring her into the United States.
